Why attend the CAOS Conflict Coaching Training Belfast?

Unresolved conflict can be a blight on people's lives leading to stress, illness, mental health issues such as depression, paranoia, aggression and of course, ultimately, violence in more extreme circumstances.

Conflict Coaching is a 'step-in-step-out' process over a maximum of 3 sessions to help people reflect on and, where necessary, change their responses to an unresolved conflict they are experiencing.

The CAOS model of conflict coaching has been developed out of the practice of mediation - a process designed to support more effective communication and creative thinking in response to a conflict.

This model was first used in 2008 when it was made publicly available to residents in London via the community mediation service Hillingdon Community Mediation.

In some instances people may not have access to, or want to participate in mediation but may still want some informal, confidential support to help them deal with a difficult situation, relationship problem or communication breakdown that is leading to stress and other difficulties in their lives.

Conflict Coaching provides an easily accessible, informal process for people to use to help them create more effective ways of responding in their situation that are more self-supporting of themselves and which helps them to create positive change in their situation.

This 5-day course, spread over an initial 3 days :

  • Exploring attendees own understanding and experiences of conflict,
  • Introducing principles and underlying philosophies drawn from the practice of mediation which inform conflict coaching practice.
  • Introducing a simple model of how conflict is never resolved through two common ways of responding and how it is always resolved as a combination of one or more of three different aspects - Learning, Connection and Insight.  which treat conflict as an opportunity for constructive change.

The last 2 days are focused on practising conflict coaching so that the attendee is prepared to offer it immediately on completing the course.

Conflict is the beginning of consciousness - Mary Esther Harding

Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of creative alternatives for responding to conflict. - Dorothy Thompson

Conflict Coaching Training Belfast - A Realistic Approach to Helping People Resolve Their Conflict

Conflict Coaching sees conflict as an inevitable part of life arising from difference. Conflict can be responded to constructively and effectively or destructively and ineffectively. We frequently respond to conflict constructively without realising it, but when we respond destructively we notice the consequences and there is a risk that the conflict remains unresolved and responded to more and more destructively and ineffectively. The purpose of conflict coaching is to support clients in returning to a more constructive and effective response to their conflict so that it can be resolved and move on from.

The approach of conflict coaching is not to 'fix' the client but to support them in creating their own more effective responses to their difficult situation, through listening and helping to reflect on their difficulty and the challenges they face within it, and also to support their creativity in developing new and more effective responses through the use of effective skills. These communication skills are explored and developed on this Conflict Coaching Training course.

How to Resolve Bullying in the Workplace

"Alan Sharland has written a vital book on bullying. His approach is the way forward. Instead of focusing on 'proving it', which takes us in the direction of investigations and hearings that go no where and only serve to exacerbate an already sensitive situation, he shows the way forward through direct communication and a focus on the behavior that is of concern."
