So, in simple terms what is 'Psychological Safety'?

This is how Professor Amy Edmondson, the main pioneer of the concept describes it:

Psychological Safety is a belief that one will not be punished or humiliated for speaking up with ideas, questions, concerns or mistakes.”

And here is a video of Amy Edmondson discussing the topic: Fearless - Creating Psychological Safety for Learning, Innovation, and Growth:

When is the next online Psychological Safety Workshop?

Friday 29th April 2022 - Friday 20th May 2022 6.30pm - 8.30pm (UK time)

What will be explored in this Psychological Safety Workshop?

The online workshop will explore the following:

  • Descriptions and features of psychological safety at work drawing upon contributions by Edmondson and others involved in developing this field.
  • Challenges faced by attendees in promoting the development of psychological safety in their own organisation.
  • Skills and principles drawn from the practices of mediation and conflict coaching that support the promotion of psychological safety at work (see video below).
  • Personal challenges that attendees may recognise in being able to carry through and develop their own journey towards psychological safety at work as well as exploration of skills and qualities they have already developed that support this.
  • How psychological safety, if fully considered as an approach, will intrinsically support greater levels of equality, diversity and inclusion within the workplace.

How is the Psychological Safety Workshop structured?

The online workshop will be held over 4 weekly evening (UK time) sessions with an optional 'Review Forum' meeting in between each session, arranged in response to attendee request.

The optional Review Forum will last 1 hour and is an 'open session' for attendees to bring any reflections and questions to share with others at the Forum in order to explore these further.

Review Forum sessions are for review of the previous session's content but can also continue on to related topics that arise from the interests of those attending, and can often lead on to separate discussions outside of the workshop as a result of attendees developing new connections with others sharing a mutual interest in this area.

All sessions are interactive, with particular aspects of the topic introduced and discussed in relation to personal challenges, organisational challenges, differences of interpretation and resulting ideas for action for taking the development of psychological safety forward within your own organisation.

How much does the Psychological Safety Workshop cost?

The fee for the 4 sessions plus optional 1hr Review Forums between sessions is £295.

This is what people say about CAOS training...

"In my 20 years experience as an academic this is the best ‘in-service’ training I have experienced. The quality of the training team’s preparation and the skill with which they conducted the course was impressive."

Dr Meretta Elliott -Senior Lecturer-School of Arts-Brunel University - speaking about a 6-day Mediator training course run by Alan Sharland and colleagues.

"This was not an easy course; the challenges involved in working outside one’s usual mode of operation were considerable, but the upbeat attitude of the trainers and the calm and supportive atmosphere they created meant that I was free to work outside my comfort zone in developing an approach to assisting others deal with their own situations."

Dr Mary Richards - Subject Leader for Drama - Brunel University - also speaking about the Mediator training course.

"This was a very successful workshop, feedback described the day as “fun”, “interesting” and “informative” with a “superb” trainer who had a “very thoughtful approach”. 100% of our attendees said they had enjoyed the course and they would recommend it to colleagues."
